House Etiquette

How to use the sauna stove

1. CHECK: Make sure there are no towels or other objects on or right next to the stove.

2. SET THE TEMPERATURE (left knob, under the stove): turn it clockwise to about 3/4, which gives a temperature of roughly 70–80 °C.

3. TURN IT ON (right knob, under the stove): turn the timer knob clockwise from zero, past the "2" or "3" (these are in the first section, spanning 1–4). The stove switches on right away and runs for that many hours. (Don't use the numbers 1–8, since those are for a delayed start.)

4. ENJOY THE STEAM: the sauna takes about 45–60 minutes to heat up. Throw water on the stones a little at a time, and only use sauna scents mixed with water.

5. AFTER YOUR SAUNA: turn the right-hand knob back to zero, if it hasn't already run down on its own.

Enjoy your sauna!

Lighting around the pond

Once it's dark, feel free to switch on the outdoor lighting around the pond.

Use the remote to control them: press ON to turn the lights on, and OFF to turn them off.

A quick note: the pond lights are meant for after dark only. Please switch them off with the remote before bed, and avoid leaving them on during the day.

Safety: please take care around the pond and keep an eye on children.

A few notes on using the hot tub

To keep your stay relaxing, and the hot tub clean and running well for you and for every guest after you, please follow these simple rules:

Shower first: rinse off before getting in. Lotions, creams, and perfumes can foam the surface, cloud the water, and clog the filters.

Keep sand off the deck and tub: the hot tub sits on a wooden deck surrounded by sand. Please stick to the path leading straight from the house to the deck, so sand doesn't end up underfoot or in the water. Beyond the discomfort, it can seriously damage the pumps and filter system.

Coming back from the pond: a warm soak followed by a bracing dip in the pond is a wonderful combination. Just rinse off in the shower before getting back into the tub, so pond water and any sand on your feet stay out of the clean water.

Temperature and controls: the temperature is already set to a comfortable level, so please don't adjust the control panel yourself. This helps avoid error messages or fluctuations.

Using the cover: when you're not using the hot tub, especially overnight or while you're out, please put the cover back on. Since the tub sits under open sky, the cover keeps the water warm, saves energy, and keeps out leaves, bugs, and debris.

Water care: please don't remove or touch the small floating basket in the water: that's the chlorine dispenser, and it keeps the water clean throughout your stay.

Food and drinks: please keep them away from the tub water, so nothing breaks or falls in.

Thank you for helping us keep the hot tub clean and in good shape. We hope you enjoy a relaxing, worry-free stay.
